Enterprise Canada and Creative Currency welcome creative innovator Dave Sommer.
Enterprise Canada and wholly owned agency, Creative Currency, are thrilled to welcome experienced strategic communications expert and creative innovator, Dave Sommer as VP, Strategic Communications and Associate Creative Director.
Former Head of Politics and Government at Instagram in Washington, DC and Deputy Director of Communications, Digital for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Dave now joins Enterprise Canada and Creative Currency with over 20 years of experience in media and communications where he advised global political leaders, government agencies, NGOs and IGOs on digital strategy and best practices. He also conceived, developed and shipped on-platform products – such as digital “I Voted!” stickers – to help Instagram’s users celebrate key elections and other civic events around the world.
“At Enterprise Canada and Creative Currency we bridge the gap between the fast-paced, high-stakes world of public affairs and traditional advertising to challenge how businesses and organizations protect their brands, sell their services, and tell their story,” said Barbara Fox, CEO of Enterprise Canada. “Dave embodies that thinking exactly with a deep understanding of how strategic communications, marketing and advertising intertwine with public policy and I look forward to seeing how he will lead our teams to success.”
Right before working at Instagram, he served as Deputy Director of Communications, Digital, for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Ottawa. From the history-making 2015 federal election campaign to 2019, Dave led the team responsible for all of the Prime Minister’s video, web and social media properties, conceiving, writing and producing all digital products in the PMO, as well as planning long-term strategy, and coordination with ministries.
“Dave is a powerhouse creative industry leader with the knowledge in public policy that puts his portfolio of work over the edge,” said Dennis Matthews President, Creative Currency. “His dynamic experience will serve our clients well and I know he will make fantastic addition.”
Dave holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Journalism from Concordia University. In the past he has also worked as a reporter, editor and producer in various Canadian radio and TV newsrooms, including CTV National News, where he was headlines and promotions producer.
