COVID-19 Update for September 24 2020 – 12:50pm

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced funding of more than $1 billion to expand COVID-19 testing and contact tracing as the next element of his “Fall Preparedness Plan”.

Expanded Testing and Contact Tracing

The provincial government will spend $1.07 billion to expand COVID-19 testing and case management by increasing testing capacity to reach 50,000 tests per day, expanding testing locations and additional initiatives. On top of the initial funding allocation, $30 million will be dedicated to “prevent and manage outbreaks in priority sectors” such as the province’s long-term care homes, according to the news release.

The Ministry of Health held a technical briefing this morning on testing protocols for COVID-19 in pharmacies and assessment centres.
