COVID-19 Update for October 5 2020 – 1:40pm
During his daily briefing today, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced $35 million in funding for schools in the “hot spot” areas of Toronto, Ottawa, Peel and York.
Additional Funding for Schools
The provincial government is allocating $35 million to school boards that, according to the government’s media release, is part of the province’s previously announced $1.3-billion plan to safely reopen classrooms. The funding will be used to provide increased physical distancing between students, hiring additional teachers and other education workers and increasing support for remote learning, including devices for students who have chosen to learn remotely.
The full media release can be found here.
Recovery Benefit Applications Now Open
Earlier this afternoon, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that applications for the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit and the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit are now open. These benefits provide support to individuals unable to work because either they are or someone they provide care for is sick and needs to self-isolate. Applications for a third program, the Canada Recovery Benefit, will open next week.
The applications and full eligibility criteria can be found online.
