COVID-19 Update for October 2 2020 – 1:40pm
Federal Update
Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the Government of Canada will provide an additional $600 million to support workers and businesses through the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF). This additional spending brings the total RRRF support to over $1.5 billion.
Provincial Update
At his press conference today, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced further restrictions following recent COVID-19 modelling data.
Testing
Beginning on Sunday, October 4, 2020, assessment centres will discontinue walk-in testing services to reset, deep clean and ensure preparedness. Starting October 6, all assessments will be by appointment only.
The number of pharmacies where people showing no symptoms can get tested has increased to 80 across the province.
Province-wide restrictions
Effective October 3 at 12:01 am, the entire province of Ontario will be required to enforce mandatory masks in shopping centres, on public transit and when at work, if there cannot be two metres of distance between each person. The Premier also said that Ontarians should limit close contact with anyone outside of their households.
Regional Restrictions
The Premier noted additional restrictions will implemented in the hotspots of Toronto, Ottawa and Peel. Starting October 3 at 12:01 am in Ottawa and Peel, restaurants, bars and clubs can allow entrance to a maximum of up to 100 people or less. Toronto will continue to have a limit of 75 people, with no more than six people per table.
In all three regions, group exercise classes will be limited to 10 people and banquet halls can have a maximum of six people per table with no more than 50 people total in the venue.
