COVID-19 Update for October 1 2020 – 1:45pm

Building on a recruitment announcement earlier this week, today Premier Doug Ford announced $461 million for Personal Support Worker (PSW) compensation. Calling it a “landmark investment,” Ford described the funding as critical to attract and retain the workforce needed in response to COVID-19.

PSW Wage Increase

Ford announced a temporary wage increase, effective today, for 147,000 publicly-funded PSWs. The boost will cover an additional $3 per hour for PSWs in long-term care, home and community care, and children, community and social services, and $2 per hour in public hospitals.

This temporary wage increase will be in place until March 2021. Asked by reporters whether it will continue beyond then, Ford said “stay tuned” and vowed to provide ongoing improvements to PSW circumstances.
