COVID-19 Update for May 1, 2020 – 2:10pm

Today, Premier Doug Ford announced the first stage of re-opening the province’s economy with a small list of business sectors that are permitted to re-open under strict guidelines. “We have made tremendous, tremendous progress,” the Premier said, joined by Finance Minister Rod Phillips, Health Minister Christine Elliott and Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Minister Vic Fedeli. “We are flattening the curve. We are heading in the right direction.”

Urging caution that Ontario needs to continue with strict distancing and stay-at-home measures to continue to reduce the spread of COVID-19, Ford said the following businesses will be permitted to re-open under strict public health measures and workplace guidelines:

  • Garden centres and nurseries with curbside pick-up and delivery only;
  • Lawn care and landscaping services;
  • Essential construction projects that include:
  • Self-serve car washes;
  • Auto dealerships, by appointment only; and
  • Golf courses and marinas may prepare for the upcoming season, but not open to the public just yet.
