COVID-19 Update for March 23, 2020 – 2:00pm

This afternoon, Premier Doug Ford ordered the mandatory closure of all non-essential workplaces in Ontario.

This order will take effect Tuesday at midnight and will last for 14 days, with the option to extend if necessary. On Tuesday, the government will release a list of what is considered essential.

As well, the Premier said schools will not reopen on April 6 and that Education Minister Stephen Lecce would be providing additional details.

The Premier noted that “we have seen other countries lose this battle…[Ontario] will not lose this battle.”

He said that the government will announce additional support for people and businesses Wednesday, March 25 in Finance Minister Philips’ economic statement,

Enterprise will provide the updated list of businesses that are opened and closed once it is released tomorrow.
