COVID-19 Update for June 22, 2020 – 12:20pm

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s daily briefing included updates on sharing public health information and new supports for food production.

Information Sharing

Prime Minister Trudeau announced that the Canadian Workplace Health and Safety Centre has published public health information on COVID-19. A new online portal has also been launched, where companies can share their experience and best practices regarding sanitary provisions.

Food Production

Trudeau announced almost $100 million for the new Merit Functional Foods location in Winnipeg, which will have 100% Canadian inputs and support farmers who produce canola and yellow peas. He acknowledged that plant-based products are becoming more popular and spoke of using Canadian innovation and crops to create more jobs, noting that Canada has already worked on the prairies-based Protein Industries Super Cluster.

Québec Cabinet Shuffle

Trudeau did not comment on a surprise cabinet shuffle in Québec, but it is sending shock waves through the province. Reports have been confirmed that Québec Premier François Legault is removing Danielle McCann as Health Minister, to be replaced by current Treasury Board President Christian Dubé.
