Premier Doug Ford opened his press conference by stressing the importance of testing and tracing to contain COVID-19.

COVID-19 Tracking App

Premier Ford announced that the Government of Ontario is releasing an enhanced case management and contact tracing strategy, Protecting Ontarians through Enhanced Case and Contact Management. He also said that the federal government is giving 1,700 Statistics Canada personnel to Ontario to help with contact tracing.

In line with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s announcement earlier, Premier Ford said that the Ontario government is launching a new, made-in-Ontario contact tracing app called COVID Alert to notify Ontarians when they may have been exposed to the virus. He emphasized that the app aims to protect personal privacy of users. It is expected to be launched within the next two weeks.
