COVID-19 Update for July 29 2020 – 1:40pm
This afternoon, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced the launch of an independent commission into COVID-19 and long-term care. This independent commission will be chaired by Ontario Superior Court Associate Chief Justice Frank Marrocco. The other two commissioners are Dr. Jack Kitts, who retired in June as president and chief executive officer of The Ottawa Hospital, and Angela Coke, a former deputy minister in the Ontario government.
The final report including recommendations is to be delivered no later than April 30, 2021.

The Premier also announced that Toronto and the Region of Peel will be permitted to move into Stage 3 of the province’s reopening plan on Friday, July 31st at 12:01 am. The only region in Ontario that is unable to move into Stage 3 at this point is Windsor-Essex. Ford asked the people of Windsor-Essex for their patience and said he is “confident we will get Windsor-Essex there very soon.”
