Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s update today announced funding for municipalities through the Safe Restart Agreement made with the federal government.

The Premier said that up to $4 billion will be dedicated to Ontario’s 444 municipalities. Of the $4 billion, $777 million will be from Ottawa and $1.22 billion will be from the province to aid with costs such as those associated with homeless shelters, women’s shelters and food banks. The other $2 billion will be split equally between the federal and provincial government and is specifically earmarked for public transit. The federal contribution of $777 million and $1 billion respectively are part of the federal contribution to the province from the Safe Restart Agreement.
