COVID-19 Update for July 15, 2020 – 1:50pm
Long-Term Care Funding
The provincial government will invest $1.75 billion to kickstart the development of long-term care beds in Ontario over the next five years.
It is also redeveloping long-term care homes to be more modern, including dedicating funds so that air conditioning will be added to existing long-term care homes. It will also be mandated that all new long-term care projects will include air conditioning.
Minister of Long-Term Care, Merilee Fullerton, announced that the funding model for long-term care development will change. There will be four new regional categories: large-urban, urban, mid-size and rural. There will be an increase in the provincial construction funding subsidy, tailored to the regional categories. The government will also provide a development grant of between 10-17% depending on the regional category in order to cover construction expenses.
Long-Term Care Visitation
Effective immediately, up to two people can visit a loved one in a long-term care home for an outdoor visit, no COVID-19 test necessary. On July 22, indoor visits for two at a time can resume. Verbal attestation of a negative COVID-19 test will apply.
