COVID-19 Update for November 2 2020 – 2:00pm

“As we fight the second wave of COVID-19, one of my top priorities is the safety of our long-term care residents,” Premier Ford said as he opened his press conference today.

Long-Term Care

The government of Ontario is increasing the average daily direct care amount in long-term care homes to four hours a day, compared to the current 2.75 hours of direct care required. This makes Ontario the first jurisdiction in Canada to do so.

This new commitment includes:

  • Average daily direct care of four hours a day per resident.
  • Hard targets set over the next four years to achieve this standard by 2024-25.
  • Changes to educate and recruit the tens of thousands of new personal support workers, registered practical nurses and registered nurses that will be required.
