2021 Pre-budget Consultations

During today’s press conference, Freeland said the federal government’s pre-budget consultations are an opportunity for Canadians to share their ideas about how the government can make investments to grow the economy and help COVID-19 economic recovery.

The budget will focus on the themes of innovation, inclusivity and competitiveness, and will include $70 to $100 billion in new spending over the next three years.

Over the next few weeks, the government will host virtual roundtables with stakeholders from a range of industries, including those hardest hit by the pandemic. Ontario Accelerates Vaccination Plan

In an update today, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said the government is accelerating COVID-19 vaccinations for residents in long-term care, high-risk retirement and First Nations elder care homes to ensure they aren’t left waiting by vaccine shipment reductions by Pfizer-BioNTech.

The target date for these vaccinations has been moved up by 10 days to February 5. The adjustment will mean that some members of other priority groups may have to reschedule vaccinations until shipments resume as previously planned.

Ontario will not receive vaccine deliveries this week and will receive just over 26,000 doses for the first weeks of February.
