COVID-19 Update for January 14 – 11:30AM

Today, Minister McNaughton announced that the provincial government will be running a COVID-19 enforcement blitz.

Inspectors will be targeting big box stores this weekend.

Toronto, Hamilton, Peel, York and Durham will see COVID-19 enforcement campaigns run this weekend targeting big box stores in these regions. These inspections will be done by approximately 50 provincial inspectors, as well as local bylaw and police officers.

The blitz will focus on ensuring all measures are being followed, from patrons wearing masks to compliance with health and safety measures in break rooms. The inspectors will have the authority to issue fines and issue an order to close the store.

This enforcement blitz will expand over the coming weeks with a focus on workplaces with COVID-19 outbreaks and other essential industries and businesses that are allowed to continue operations during the stay-at-home order.

Maximum fines for violating the rules can be up to $100,000 for individuals and $10 million for a corporation. You can read the full announcement here.
