COVID-19 Update for May 5, 2020 – 2:10pmMay 5, 2020
Today Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced $12 million to expand mental health services to thousands of Ontarians experiencing anxiety and depression, including frontline health care workers. Addressing those suffering directly, the Premier emphasized, “You’re not alone, we will support you and we will get through this together.” Premier Ford was also asked about whether Ontarians will be able to go outside during the upcoming May 24 long weekend. He responded “yes they will,” saying that the government will have more to announce later this week.
Ontario Partnering with MindBeacon and Morneau Shepell
The government of Ontario is also partnering with MindBeacon and Morneau Shepell to deliver Internet-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (iCBT) programs to Ontarians which will be available at no out-of-pocket cost to people across the province. Mental Health and Addictions COVID-19 Response Table
Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Michael Tibollo also announced the creation of a new “Mental Health and Addictions COVID-19 Response Table”, led by the Mental Health and Addictions Centre of Excellence at Ontario Health, to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on access to public mental health and addictions services. The Response Table is identifying concerns and implementing quick solutions by sharing best practices and connecting with other COVID-19 regional and provincial tables to ensure prompt action on emerging issues.
