COVID-19 Update for June 11, 2020 – 12:00pm

June 11, 2020

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivered his remarks from the road today while visiting a longstanding Ottawa awards and promotions company. He continued to push the employers to use the wage subsidy program, announced a new partnership with a private sector-campaign to re-start the economy and unveiled targeted funding for Indigenous businesses.

POST Promise Program

The federal government is partnering with the Business Council of Canada to support its POST Promise program — a Canada-wide COVID-19 awareness campaign aimed at keeping customers, employees and communities safe as the economy restarts (POST is an acronym for People Outside Safely Together). The initiative calls on businesses to commit to five key public health measures to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, including maintaining physical distance, washing and sanitizing hands, keeping workplaces clean and disinfected, staying home if unwell and wearing a mask when recommended. All businesses are encouraged to participate by visiting www.postpromise.com.

Indigenous Business Support

The Prime Minister also announced targeted investment of $133 million to support Indigenous businesses in Canada, dedicating $117 million to support small- and community-owned businesses to help them get through these challenging times. An additional $16 million will be given to businesses in the tourism industry – a sector that supports thousands of jobs across the country.
